Today in class, students received back graded work.  A review outline pertaining to trace evidence was passed out and we used the wipe-off boards to practice parts of the content for the upcoming assessment.  The second part of class was spent learning about the different classes of drugs.  Students broke up into groups to become experts in each area and created handouts to share with the rest of the class.

Homework:  Review for the assessment next class.

Today in class, students turned in their limiting reactant packets for feedback and took a quick quiz on stoichiometry.  When finished, students began to work on the Stoichiometry Challenge lab in groups.

Homework:  Write the lab report based on the rubric provided.  Be sure to follow all points outlined.  We will go over questions about limiting reactants on Friday and then there will be new content covered on gases on Friday.  The stoichiometry quest will be given on Tuesday.

Today in class students received back grade work and began the analysis of their soil samples from home according to the following guidelines:

Soil Analysis

Homework:  Students should write a discussion of the data collected, discussing what interesting things they learned about their samples and what the test results showed.  Students should absolutely refer to their test results in the course of the writing and compare their sample to an unknown.

Today in class, students turned in their fiber conclusions.

Today in class, students viewed a powerpoint presentation about glass trace evidence.  We discussed different types of glass and how glass can be class or individual evidence.  Students then performed two tests on glass samples, refractive index and density.

  • Homework:  Write  a discussion for your glass data which should include the following:
  • What happened when each of the pieces of glass were placed in the canola oil and why?
  • What is your response to question #3?  Be sure to compare the Known samples, and then discuss the questioned source.
  • Discuss densities of glass pieces collected by you and your classmates.  Were they alike or different?  What was the range in values?  What was the average value? Explain why there may be inconsistencies in the data.
